Another Name

"In the beginning,
God created the heavens
And the earth."

Created? Yes.
But there's so much more
To the story.

For in the time before time,
Mystery stood at the crest
Of a regal staircase.

She, a Tolstoyesque debutante,
Sophisticated, charming, alluring,
Began her descent
Into that primordial ballroom
With a flutter in her heart,

A flutter we now call
The Big Bang.

Then, with a single coquettish glance,
Energy itself was flirted into existence.

And to a batting of her eyelashes,
Space and time responded,
"Yes!"

But flirtation quickly evolved
Into something more,
Setting the tone for all
That was to come.

"In the beginning,
God created the heavens
And the earth."

That's the PG version.

The deeper truth is this:
In the beginning,
God seduced
The formless into form.

And Seduction is but another name
For every moment since.

God Meant It

There are three perspectives
That won't serve you well in life:

I am bad.
The world is bad.
The future is bad.

For many of us,
The most arduous leg
Of the spiritual journey
Involves the painstaking process
Of unlearning these lies.

Some never break free.

Some even wed these abusers,
Unable to imagine life without them.

But I'll tell you this:

God meant it,
O, she really meant it,

When she called
This world, its creatures,
And its future

Good and Very Good.
